We have a great chance of going far
I’m definitely excited to be in this position again. Last year, nobody expected us to get as far as we did. Now I’m excited to get back and this year we want to get even further and make it to the World Series. That’s the main goal, after all the hard work all year and we’re in the playoffs with a chance to do some big things.
We’re having fun and getting ready for the big day. Everybody’s excited and can’t wait till tomorrow and we’ll see those playoff rags waving in the stands. This year, I think we’re more ready than last year; we have the experience and know what we need to do and what we’re capable of doing. We just need to play the way we played to win 95 games and carry it over to the playoffs and win the whole thing.
Maybe they’re favored, but last year we were underdogs and did so well. They have great pitching, that’s probably why they’re favored. I’m sure on paper that everybody picks them over us. We’re definitely a team that’s hard to beat and they’re coming into Dodger Stadium and it’s going to be a crazy territory and it will be hard for them to come in here and dominate us. You play the game right and not make mistakes and the best team is going to win. As long as we cut down on errors and running mistakes and work pitchers, we have a great chance of going far.
Now, I’m going home and relax, like a day off. I just want to clear my mind and not think too much or you can drive yourself crazy. I’ll go out to eat, maybe see a movie, something to have fun. You don’t want to get too riled up. You want to go into the game relaxed. I don’t want to drive myself crazy. I used to put too much on myself. I’ll try not to think about it until I get to the stadium.. And when I get there, it’ll be the same routine as 162 games this year. Eat, listen to music, goof around, nothing going to change. It’s still a baseball game.

I have high hopes for our boys of summer. ’88 was a long time ago, and I was only 7 🙂 . I would like to witness this first hand. As far as the Cards…yes they have all those guys (Pujols is already legendary), but we have Kemp, Ethier, Manny, Loney…the DODGERs time is now and the Cards are on a downward spiral.
Hey Matt…I’ve always had faith in you and all of your abilities. You always change the momentum of a game..either with a diving catch…a stolen base…or a MONSTER home run….in my mind, you, Russ, Andre, Chad, and Loney are the future of Dodger baseball….have fun buddy…always remember when your making a spectacular catch…or driving in a run…my 1 year old daughter (she says DODGERS already and always points to the TV when she see’s you) and myself and cheering for you….GO DODGERS!!!!

Yes the cards have puljos, carpenter, holliday, blah blah blah, but this is postseason baseball, none of that matters anymore. Kemp, you and this Dodgers team this year represent what the Dodgers and the city of LA are all about, cool, calm, but ready to bring it when it’s time. This Dodger team plays every inning like it’s the bottom of the 12th inning at the Metrodome, you never give up and you turn it to 11 to make sure if someone’s gonna beat you, you’re gonna leave them knowing that they got away lucky. Go out there, show the world why you’re the best team in the NL, show them that this lineup is to be FEARED by every team in the playoffs. While the Cardinals are a good team this year, I want their jaws to drop with disbelief due to the severity of a beating you will give them.
WAR DODGERS! WAR KEMP! We’ll be there supporting you the whole way…We Ride Together, We Die Together!
One thing about being an underdog, there’s less pressure. Just go out there, enjoy the postseason and have fun.
It’s been a pleasure to watch you grow as a player. You’ve done it with grace and dignity. I hope you are able to retire as a Dodger and – dare I say it – perhaps wear your Dodger Blue at Cooperstown some day!

Matt I have been a life long Dodeger fan. I mean life long, Every sence I was a child age 10 when my dad took me to my first game at the old Colisceaum in 1958. I have seen some great players Morry Wills, gill Hodges, Davey loopes, sandy koofax, Wally Moon, Cey,Russel, Garvey, Carros, Sousha, Peassa, all of them great players of their time. How about that 1988 team. The Dodgers where the underdogs!! They couldent beat Oakland who won 104 games in the reagular season could they??? They DID!!! Over the years the Dodgers have had some great teams. OH lets not forget the team of Blake, Hudson, Reomarez, Eather, Loney, and the rest of you, and that center fielder What’s his name. oh yes Matt Kemp. Keep it up Team you are going to WIN IT ALL!!!
